The pressures of uncertainty

Briefing 1 for trusts and foundations on the challenges faced by VCSE leaders during the Covid-19 crisis

The first briefing in our series sharing the experiences of leaders of voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations attending our covid-19 peer support groups.

In this briefing the first 23 leaders participating in the sessions in April 2020 share challenges, dilemmas and worries and we reflect on the questions and opportunities for funders they raise.

All are feeling the pressure of uncertainty, a few are hopeful that cutting back on activities will create more time for development and forward planning, but some feel it is too early for serious planning. Leaders have embraced a radical shift in the use of technology, but there are shared worries about who is missing out and that existing inequalities and vulnerabilities will be exacerbated.
