‘Don’t keep asking us to change’

‘Leading in Uncertainty’ is a programme of online support for charity leaders. It was established at the beginning of the Covid pandemic in April 2020. At that time of acute crisis, we sought to provide a ‘safe space’ to pause and reflect for leaders of smaller, frontline charities. Since then, over 700 charity leaders from across the UK have taken part, sharing their experiences and providing mutual support through the pandemic and its aftershocks.

Drawing on facilitated conversations, we publish briefings to help trusts and foundations better understand the challenges and realities facing charity leaders, as well as and share ideas on how funders can better charities to do their best work.

This latest briefing is based on conversations with 28 charity leaders during October 2024. It highlights current experiences of voluntary sector leadership, positive thinking and action by charity leaders, and key insights into what funders can do to help. Find out what we learnt about what charities say will make a difference.
