A new decade and new challenges for IVAR

As we enter a new decade 2010 brings many exciting challenges for IVAR. This is our tenth year of conducting research in the voluntary sector and we have made plans to mark this milestone. We look forward to seeing many of you at our first event in June.

We're looking forward to seeing many of you at the second in our series of seminars held jointly with Birkbeck On February 4th we will be hearing from Roger Spear and our own Mike Aiken on the themes of "Social entrepreneurship, social enterprise - examining evidence from recent research in the field."

Latest publication

Some of the findings from IVAR's study of grassroots 'bridge-building' have been published in the academic journal Policy and Politics.  The study was conducted by Margaret Harris with Patricia Young and focused on local organisations and projects which have a vision to build links and bridges between people from different faith and ethnic groups and different countries of origin. It looked at the activities such groups are running, how they are managed and how they are funded. It explored the challenges they face and how their good experiences can be shared.

Current research projects

IVAR is pleased to be continuing its work with City Bridge Trust with a series of follow up reviews of its original work - Improving Services for Older People. The main purpose of these reviews will be to capture and describe organisations’ views and perceptions of the benefits of the capacity-building support provided through the ISOP programme – both the immediate outcomes and any longer-term effects and changes.

We are also delighted to be developing our work with the I&DeA with whom we've been working on the PIP project. This year the Commissioning Improvement Programme will be rolled out across the UK. This programme is part of the wider National Programme for Third Sector Commissioning.
