A Review of Compact Disputes

This report details an assessment of Compact Advocacy cases carried out by the Institute for Voluntary Action Research on behalf of Compact Voice. The overall objective of this research was to conduct a review of disputes between a voluntary and community sector [VCS] organisation and a public body.

The report is divided into four parts.

Part One provides some background to the research and outlines our methodology.

In Part Two we present the findings of the review of the advocacy cases and identify patterns in relation to the disputes and their subsequent resolutions.

Part Three focuses on the process of resolving a dispute around non-Compact ways of working, looking specifically at the experiences of a number of voluntary and community organisations (VCOs). It also covers some of the lessons learned about the best way to successfully resolve cases and actions organisations could take to ensure a successful outcome in the future.

Finally, in Part Four, we highlight key learning from the research.
