IVAR holds debate on funding plus
We launched our recent report, Beyond money: A study of funding plus in the UK, on 21st September at a debate event entitled ‘Funders should stick to making grants’.
Attended by over 80 grantmakers, grantees and others working with the voluntary and community sector, we had a thought-provoking afternoon with speeches from Stephen Dunmore (Interim CEO, The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund), Alastair Wilson (CEO, School for Social Entrepreneurs) and Ben Cairns (Director, IVAR).
The audience got to grips with issues at the heart of funding plus practices, such as: whether funders have a mandate for funding plus; using power for good; and how to share learning (about success and failure) between funders as well as responding to the changing needs of grantees.
Ben Cairns, IVAR, ended the afternoon with the proposal for a set of principles governing activity that goes beyond money: ’It should be ‘voluntary, appropriate, mindful of existing activity, informed and accountable’.
