Final seminar in the current BIVAR series has a big impact - 11th June 2010

The theory and practice of 'impact'

A packed final session in the current BIVAR seminar series heard from Professor Rob Paton (Centre for Public Leadership and Social Enterprise, the Open University Business School) and Leila Baker (IVAR) and Lucy Heady (New Philanthropy Capital) talk about the theory and practice of ‘impact’. Both presentations provided the audience with some refreshing perspectives on ‘impact measurement’ which in turn stimulated a very thoughtful and engaging debate.

Rob's presentation focused on the pressures of funder demands for ‘outcomes’ and ‘impact’ and the resulting cascade of new measurement approaches and tools. Rob posed the question "has the measurement problem being cracked at last?"

Rob was followed by Leila Baker and Lucy Heady who gave a joint presentation on their research into assessing the impact of multi-purpose community organisations.
